A TASTE OF SCOTLAND
Picking up some tartan tat on the
Royal Mile isn't really enough, to be honest. To get a real flavour of
the country that hosts the world's largest arts festival, you should
take in some local heroes with universal appeal.
Legendary Glasgow raconteur Raymond Mearns will be holding court with
his disarming shaggy dog stories, whilst another twelve months of
mortifying misery means multi-faceted novelist/columnist/stand-up A.L
Kennedy couldn't let us face it without her.
She'll be joined by multimedia man of the moment Limmy. From his
Glasgow flat to inboxes across the globe, Brian Limond will be
bringing the cult internet sensations that people Limmy's World of
Glasgow live to The Stand for his first ever Fringe engagement.
That emblem of Scottish multiculturalism Vladimir McTavish will be
lecturing on A Scottish History of the World, whilst alter ego Bob
Doolally will also be in reflective mood as he searches in vain for
some lucid memories from Scotland's most successful footballing year
in 1967 Forty Years On.
Twelve months a year, The Stand is at the forefront of nurturing
Scottish comedy talent- come August, there's no better place to
witness it flourish on an international stage.
