FRANCESCA MARTINEZ
in DEEP
Hotfooting it to The Stand after sell-out performances on Broadway,
New York, a much-loved appearance on the Frank Skinner Show and
starring alongside Ricky Gervais and Kate Winslet in Extras, Francesca
Martinez returns to Edinburgh five years after her last sell-out
Fringe-run with a comeback show that's straight from the heart...
After a whirlwind few years of showcasing her multitude of talents
everywhere from Trafalgar Square to Dublin Castle, with regular
Channel 4 and BBC TV and Radio appearances to boot, Francesca hit
burn-out and was forced to sleep. Deeply. Having so much time on her
hands, she began to think. Deeply. With no energy left (apart from
that required to watch 24 on DVD) she began to appreciate just what a
brilliant thing energy is and what a privilege it is to do stand-up.
So when her energy returned, she just had to make the most of it and
write a show full of everything in this world that she was passionate
about. And this is it.
So Martinez jumps in deep and talks about confidence, self-image,
designer babies, politics, religion, media, happiness and just what
she ended up realising after all that time with herself.
This is chit-chat free comedy for the heart and the head from the
woman The Daily Mail dubs 'the perfect stand-up'. There's no
banter-based padding here. This Fringe, Francesca presents a brand new
hour of taboo-busting comedy. Addressing the world as she sees it,
she'll be turning her impish, razor sharp wit on the personal and the
political. She certainly feels we are close to achieving true equality
in society... 'Well, it's great to finally see some disabled people
getting into positions of power- like George W. Bush...'
Francesca is the first disabled performer in the UK to have become one
of the top comedians of her generation. Catch her in her most
universal, challenging and funny show yet.
