MARTIN SOAN
BIOGRAPHYGarlanded with
awards and media accolades, Martin Soan continues to plough his own
path. A key player in the alternative comedy scene of the 80s which
spawned an anarchic new breed of performer and inspired the likes of
Stewart Lee and Vic Reeves to pick up a mic, Martin co-founded the
infamous Greatest Show On Legs with the late Malcolm Hardee.
Originally a pornographic Punch and Judy, the Greatest Show On Legs
shot to fame when their intricate balloon dance was performed on Chris
Tarrant's OTT.
Unsurprisingly, Martin's zany unpredictability has proved hugely
popular on kids and variety TV. His UK broadcast appearances are as
diverse as Cilla Black's Surprise! Surprise! and Jools
Holland's The Tube, by way of Blackadder and The Last
Resort.
As a youthful TimeOut Award Winner (in 1991 alongside Eddie Izzard)
and middle-aged Perrier Award nominee, Martin continues to thrive in
front of contemporary live comedy crowds. Hugely respected by current
pioneers of unconventional comedy, Martin has appeared live at Ian
Cognito's Club Cognito, Boothby Graffoe's Club Boothby
and the Simon Munnery-curated Hootenanny Sunday. A festival
favourite, Martin has recently wowed the crowds at Lewisham Comedy
Festival and the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
With 30 years of performing under his belt, Soan Alone is Martin
Soan's long overdue solo show.
