MRS BARBARA NICE
BIOGRAPHY
Janice Connolly was first spotted performing as Barbara by Peter Kay
at the 1998 North West Comedian of The Year, an award he'd won himself
the previous year.
At his request, she appeared in Channel 4's That Peter Kay Thing
and went on to star in both series of the phenomenally successful
Phoenix Nights and its spin-off Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere
. Other TV appearances include ITV's Dead Man Weds with Dave
Spikey, BBC2's skating rink comedy Thin Ice and as Peter's mum
in Coronation Street.
As Barbara, Janice has toured the UK with the Manchester Evening News
Theatre Award-nominated Jumping On The Bandwagon alongside fellow
Phoenix Nights stars Archy Kelly, Steve Edge and Patrick MacGuinness,
whom she also supported on his sell-out The Dark Side tour.
Throughout her career, Barbara has trod the boards of The Albert Hall,
The Royal Court and Manchester Opera House.
In addition to playing Barbara, Janice is the artistic director of
triple award winning Birmingham based Women and Theatre . Now in its
24th year, the company specialises in creating new theatre and using
drama to explore things that really matter.
Barbara made her Fringe debut in 2003 with Barbara Nice's Special
Offer and followed this with Barbara The Vampire Slayer in
2004. Following a previous two-week Fringe run at The Stand and buoyed
by her growing national reputation, in 2007 Barbara is back for the
full whammy.
